Gavin and Aimee spent a beautiful afternoon with me for their Powell Gardens engagement session, and even though we were photographing in full afternoon sunlight instead of the traditional golden hour glow, they absolutely nailed it. As a Kansas City engagement photographer, I love showing couples that beautiful engagement photography isn’t about a specific time of day — it’s about connection, emotion, and creating images that feel authentic to who they are.

Great light can happen at any time, and this engagement session at Powell Gardens was proof that with the right eye, thoughtful direction, and a couple willing to have fun together, beautiful images follow.

We explored several of my favorite locations throughout Powell Gardens, including the Fountain Garden, Compass Garden, the vineyard vines, and the lush foliage tucked near the Children’s Garden. Each area provided a unique backdrop for their engagement photos, from elegant garden portraits surrounded by blooming landscapes to playful and romantic moments surrounded by the natural beauty of one of Kansas City’s most stunning gardens.

Gavin and Aimee brought such an effortless connection and joyful energy to their Powell Gardens engagement photography session, making every moment a joy to photograph.
