A Little Fantasy, a Little Romance, and a Lot of Personality | Rachel & Ransom's Powell Gardens Wedding

When I say I love weddings that showcase a couple's personality, THIS is exactly what I'm talking about!

Rachel and Ransom's wedding at Powell Gardens in Kingsville, Missouri, was a beautiful combination of fantasy, romance, nature, and a little Renaissance magic. From their custom wedding attire to their celestial-inspired cake, every detail reflected who they are as a couple. And as a wedding photographer, I absolutely LOVE when couples aren't afraid to do something different!

Custom Wedding Attire with a Touch of Magic

Let's start with the dress, because WOW!

Rachel's wedding gown was custom-made by Ezra October Custom Clothing, and it was truly a work of art. The soft ivory gown featured delicate floral embroidery in shades of pink, peach, and gold. The flowing layers of tulle gave the dress a romantic, almost fairytale appearance.

But my favorite detail? The fox!

Rachel and Ransom share a love for foxes, so naturally, they wanted to incorporate them into their wedding day. Hidden among the beautiful floral details of Rachel's dress was an embroidered fox. I love personal touches like this because they make a wedding gown so much more than just a pretty dress.

And Ransom wasn't about to let Rachel have all the fun!

His custom suit, also created by Ezra October Custom Clothing, was just as unique. Under his dark jacket was a brilliant blue vest featuring celestial designs, including stars and a sun-and-moon motif. And, of course, his outfit included a fox as well!

Even their accessories carried the theme, from Rachel's embroidered shoes to the celestial details in their jewelry and ring box.

Seriously, how fun is that?!

A Wedding Party Straight Out of the Renaissance

Rachel and Ransom carried their fantasy-inspired theme right into their wedding party.

Instead of traditional matching wedding party, Rachels side wore beautiful shades of green with flowing fabrics, floral crowns, and Renaissance-inspired details. Each person had their own unique look, but together they created a wonderful woodland-fantasy feeling.

The flowers were another beautiful part of the day. Bright sunflowers, orange calla lilies, peach and pink roses, and other colorful blooms added warmth and personality to the entire wedding.

I especially loved how the rich greens of the wedding party's outfits contrasted with all those gorgeous flowers!

A Fairytale Wedding at Powell Gardens

Rachel and Ransom exchanged their vows inside the beautiful Marjorie Powell Allen Chapel at Powell Gardens.

One of the things I love about photographing weddings at Powell Gardens is the variety of locations available for portraits. Between the architecture of the chapel and the beautiful gardens, there are so many opportunities to create something special.

For Rachel and Ransom, the natural surroundings were the perfect backdrop for their fantasy-inspired wedding.

We photographed the couple among the gardens, surrounded by greenery, water, and beautiful yellow flowers. Rachel's long, flowing veil added another layer of romance to their portraits, especially when we let it catch the breeze.

And because I love getting creative with my photography, we even brought out my lens ball!

If you've followed my recent work, you may have seen me playing with this little glass ball. It creates a crystal-ball effect, reflecting the couple upside down inside the sphere. For a wedding with a fantasy theme, I couldn't think of a more perfect opportunity to use it!

A Celestial-Inspired Reception at the Grand Hall

Following their ceremony, the celebration continued at the Grand Hall at Powell Gardens.

And once again, Rachel and Ransom made sure their personalities shined through!

Their wedding cake was definitely not your traditional white wedding cake. Instead, it featured a dramatic navy blue and golden yellow design representing the sun and moon, complete with stars, crescent moons, and, naturally, foxes!

My favorite little detail was the fox figurine wearing a tiny bridal veil. How adorable is that?!

It was such a fun continuation of the celestial and woodland themes that had been woven throughout their wedding day.

Of course, we also captured the couple cutting their cake and enjoying the celebration together.

A Wedding That Was Completely Their Own

One of my favorite things about being a Kansas City wedding photographer is seeing how differently couples choose to celebrate their love.

Some couples love traditional elegance, others prefer something simple and intimate, and then there are couples like Rachel and Ransom who create a day that feels like stepping into their own personal fairytale.

I loved photographing their beautiful custom attire, their colorful wedding party, and all those little fox details that made their celebration so personal.

Rachel and Ransom, thank you for letting me be part of your magical wedding day!
