The English Barn Wedding Photographer | Emily & Nick

I first met Emily and Nick for their engagement session at Loose Park in the winter. The pond was frozen, the trees were bare, and there wasn't a lot of the greenery you normally think of when you picture Loose Park. But honestly, I loved it. Without all the leaves and flowers, we could really see all the beautiful textures in the park—the stone, tree bark, rose vines, and the different layers of the landscape. It was a completely different look than what you get in the warmer months, and it made for such a pretty backdrop for their engagement photos.

Fast forward to September 19, 2026, and I was getting to photograph these two again—this time as bride and groom!

Emily and Nick were married at The English Barn in Louisburg, Kansas, and their wedding had the perfect mix of modern style and romance. Their colors were navy, cream, light blue, and touches of gold, and everything came together beautifully.

As a Kansas City wedding photographer, I love getting to photograph weddings at venues outside of the city, and The English Barn is such a beautiful setting for a wedding. The property has so many unique features, including its beautiful stone castle turret, which gives the venue a little something different from your typical Kansas wedding venue.

A Beautiful Outdoor Ceremony at The English Barn

Emily and Nick chose to have their ceremony at the gazebo overlooking the pond. The setting was beautiful. The gazebo sits right in front of the pond and its fountain, surrounded by trees and bushes, with a brick patio stretching out in front. White wooden chairs lined the patio for their guests, and a beautiful glass chandelier hung inside the gazebo.

The entire setting felt romantic without being overly formal, which fit Emily and Nick's wedding perfectly.

Their wedding party included three bridesmaids and four groomsmen. The ladies looked beautiful in navy dresses, while the guys wore gray suits with navy ties. The colors tied everything together so well with the setting.

And of course, the flowers were created by Jane, the owner of The English Barn. Emily's bouquet featured beautiful cream roses, soft blue hydrangeas, and delicate blue delphinium. The pops of blue were the perfect addition to the cream flowers and tied in beautifully with the navy, light blue, and gold colors throughout the wedding.

The ceremony itself was beautiful and heartfelt. Instead of a traditional unity candle, Emily and Nick chose to do a sand ceremony, creating their own little keepsake from the day.

And then came one of my favorite moments.

As Emily and Nick walked back down the aisle together, Nick stopped and dipped Emily—right in the middle of the aisle! It was such a fun, spontaneous way to end the ceremony, and it was very much them.

A Fun-Filled English Barn Wedding Reception

After the ceremony, everyone headed inside for a fun and relaxed reception. Dinner was an Italian buffet from Johnny Cascone's, followed by all of the traditional wedding-day favorites.

Emily and Nick had a private sweetheart table at the front of the room, where they could enjoy a little time together as newlyweds while still being right in the middle of the celebration.

There was cake cutting, their first dance, a father-daughter dance, a mother-son dance, and plenty of heartfelt toasts. And then, of course, it was time to open up the dance floor!

The reception had such a lighthearted feel to it. There was plenty of laughing, dancing, celebrating, and just enjoying the fact that after all the planning, the big day was finally here.

Blue Hour at The English Barn

We didn't get much of a sunset that evening, but sometimes you don't need one.

We ended the night back at the gazebo for a few final portraits. The glass chandelier was glowing above Emily and Nick, and the deep blue of blue hour had settled in around the pond. It was the perfect quiet ending to a day that had been filled with so much love, laughter, and celebration.

As a wedding photographer at The English Barn, these are some of my favorite moments to photograph—the little pieces of the day that happen after the ceremony, when everything has slowed down just a little and the couple can take a breath and enjoy being married.

From a frozen pond and bare trees at their winter engagement session at Loose Park to a beautiful September wedding surrounded by greenery, flowers, and their favorite people, it was so special getting to photograph Emily and Nick through both parts of their story.
