Bright, and Full of Life....

Eyes….. they say they are the window to the soul.  Therefore, shouldn’t every professional portrait show them bright and full of life?

Too often, I see portraits where the eyes are empty and dull.  With the trend of natural light photography, I unfortunately often see potraits with no catch light…. to me, that is not a professional portrait!

In-studio, portrait photography lends itself to having a beautiful catchlight…. but with on-location photography, the photographer must know how to read the light.  They must have the technical knowledge to know what needs to be done, to get that bright lift to the eyes, that we ALL want!

Think about any great portrait, and most often you are drawn to the ones where the eyes come alive!!  Next time you pick a professional, pay close attention to the eyes… what do they show?

A Few of My Favorite Things.......

We all know that photography is my passion…. and well, weddings are are a large part of the fun!  Weddings keep me on my toes.  I have to think fast, stay calm, and keep my creative juices flowing.    I absolutely love the challenge!

Earlier in March I was able to photograph a beautiful bride and groom at one of my favorite locations - the Deer Creek Golf Course in Overland Park, KS.  Whether you want an indoor or outdoor wedding, Deer Creek will take care of you.  They have beautiful stonework, a cute bar area, and large picture windows inside.  Outside, obviously the Golf Course, tall grasses, a pond, bridges, wonderful covered entryway, and more cute stonework found on their downstairs patio!  I can’t say enough great things about this location!  Every time I go, I find a different angle, view, corner in which to photograph my bride and groom!

The next thing on my list, and last for this post, is cake!!  I love wedding cakes…. especially cupcakes, because then I can usually snag a few to take home and share with my husband and son.  LOL!  Anyway, I have recently gotten a chance to taste the great cakes, made by Megan Odle, of Sweet Dreams Cake Company… and let me tell you, they are yummy!  Not only are they delicious, but beautiful, fun and creative to boot!  Megan not only makes cakes, but a whole assortment of decorative treats!  Definitely check her out, and don’t forget to share with your wedding photographer.

Even if you don’t use the above vendors on your wedding day, pick someone that you will enjoy working with, and does good work!!

Family Portraits.... Yes, they are important!!

Every year, I photograph so many lovely families!!  I love getting to be the artist that captures that one moment…. you know the one…. the one before your child’s next growth spurt, before their new glasses, before their new haircut, before the lost teeth… I could go on and on, you blink and the moment seems to be gone.

I have the privilege of photographing this lovely family every year!

I have the privilege of photographing this lovely family every year!

I love the world we live in, the technology at our fingertips lets us capture every little moment.  Those snapshots that we share on social media keep us up to date with friends and family that live all over the country/world!!  Now, think about those images that you remember from childhood.  I bet a lot of them still hang on your families walls….. those portraits that you show off to others that come into your home!  Those are the images, that you can reminisce over when you visit Mom and Dad, or when your children grow up and visit you.  Portrait photographers, know that they are creating a piece of art that captures the heart of your family, and a moment you can not get back.

I love photographing families and their extended family!!

I love photographing families and their extended family!!

I, while usually always behind the camera, take the time to come out from behind it to capture my family at least once a year.  I love my two guys, and the dogs and the cat… I love watching my family grow and change through the years.  Remember, you can’t go back in time, so take that moment out of the year and have your family documented by a professional…. even if it isn’t me.

Wedding Day Story Telling

Event photography, especially weddings, is all about the art of story telling.  You’ve spent months (if not years) planning every moment of your day.  Now, you have put your trust in a photographer to capture all of your special moments and more.

As a professional wedding photographer, I take the art of story telling seriously.  The goal is to capture your personal expression.  This is done by not only photographing the large moments of your day, but by collecting images of all the bits and pieces throughout.   From the first moments you see each other, to the small glances you give each other while holding hands… we want to show it all!  From the wedding cake, to the smallest decoration…. If you put thought into it, I want to artistically document it for you.

The art of story telling takes many hats.  Photographers not only need to be lighting experts, and creative artists, but we have to be natural leaders.  Wedding photographers have the unspoken job of keeping your day flowing (we work as your unofficial wedding coordinator).  Angi's Art works hard to try to keep your day a low stress environment.

Weddings stories have been told throughout time!  In this day and age, you luckily get the digital files that show every moment captured.  However, I personally create all of my packages to include an ablum.  This way, no matter the change in technology, you will always have a way to view your images and pass down for generations.
